We invite all conductors to participate in a unique workshop dedicated to the interpretation of symphonies by W.A. Mozart. This is a rare opportunity to work within a single course on some of the most essential and frequently performed symphonies by the Viennese genius.

Prof. Georg Christoph Sandmann
Professor of Orchestral Conducting at the Hochschule für Musik Dresden
Prof. Georg Christoph Sandmann is a highly esteemed German conductor, pianist, and educator with an exceptional career in both performance and pedagogy.
Prof. Georg Christoph Sandmann studied at the Berlin Specialized School for Music Education "Georg Friedrich Händel" and was a member of the Berlin Radio Children's Choir from 1974 to 1983. From 1984 to 1989, he studied at the Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler" Berlin, specializing in conducting with Prof. Rolf Reuter, as well as piano, voice, and composition.
From 1989 to 1992, he worked as First Kapellmeister at the Zwickau City Theater, and until 1998 as Second Kapellmeister at the Municipal Theaters in Chemnitz. In 1999, he was appointed General Music Director of the Central Saxon Theater and Philharmonic Ltd., and in 2003, of the Plauen-Zwickau Theater.
Since 2010, Georg Christoph Sandmann has worked as a freelance conductor, pianist, and university lecturer, performing in numerous concerts and opera festivals both in Germany and internationally. He conducts several orchestras and choirs and has served as the artistic director of the Meißner Kantorei 1961, a regional choir specializing in modern church music, since 2018.
Since 2000, he has taught orchestral conducting at the Musikhochschule Carl Maria von Weber Dresden, since the 2016/17 academic year at the Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst Mannheim, and, starting in 2024, also at the Hochschule für Musik Nürnberg.
From 2012 to 2022, Prof. Sandmann led masterclasses in orchestral conducting at the International Mendelssohn Academy in Leipzig. Since July 2017, he has co-led the Bayreuth Festival conducting masterclass together with Christian Thielemann.
His extensive teaching activity includes numerous masterclasses in orchestral and choral conducting both in Germany and abroad, including several visits to the United States starting in 2002, Thessaloniki (Greece) in May 2019, and, since 2022, repeated engagements in Romania, Turkey, and currently in Serbia and Austria.
A distinctive feature of Georg Christoph Sandmann’s artistic work is his numerous new orchestrations of stage works and choral-symphonic repertoire.
In addition, he organizes lecture series on musicological topics, as well as discussion and literary concerts.
