We invite all conductors to participate in a unique workshop dedicated to the interpretation of symphonies by W.A. Mozart. This is a rare opportunity to work within a single course on some of the most essential and frequently performed symphonies by the Viennese genius.
Nov 28: (Preparatory) score analysis and conducting technique lessons

Prof. Georg Christoph Sandmann
Professor of Orchestral Conducting at the Hochschule für Musik Dresden
Prof. Georg Christoph Sandmann is a highly esteemed German conductor, pianist, and educator with an exceptional career in both performance and pedagogy.
He received his early training at the Berlin Special School for Music Education “G. F. Handel” and performed in the Berlin Children’s Radio Choir (1974–1983). From 1984 to 1989, he studied conducting under Prof. Rolf Reuter at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin, as well as piano, voice, and composition.
Sandmann held significant operatic posts, serving as First Kapellmeister in Zwickau (1989–1992), Second Kapellmeister in Chemnitz (1992–1998), General Music Director at the Middle Saxony Theater & Philharmonic (1999–2003), and later at Theater Plauen‑Zwickau (2003–2010).
Since 2010, he has worked as a freelance conductor and pianist internationally, appearing in numerous concerts and opera festivals.
A committed academic, he has been Professor of Orchestral Conducting at the Carl Maria von Weber University of Music Dresden since 2000 (appointed full professor in 2016). He has also taught at the International Mendelssohn Academy Leipzig since 2012, and at the University of Music and Performing Arts Mannheim (2016–2017).
In July 2017, he co-led the inaugural official conducting masterclass at the Bayreuth Festival with Maestro Christian Thielemann. From 2011 to 2018, he served as Intendant and Artistic Director of the International Music Competition PACEM IN TERRIS in Bayreuth.
Additionally, since 2018, Sandmann has been the Artistic Director of the Meißner Kantorei 1961, a leading ensemble for contemporary sacred music. He also contributes to shaping the International Kurt Masur Institute in Leipzig.
He is frequently invited to present lecture-recitals and musicological conversation concerts at culturally significant venues such as Bayreuth and Bad Homburg, often in collaboration with the Robert‑Schumann‑Haus Zwickau.
